Dental veneers are an increasingly popular elective treatment. If you want to transform your smile and correct a diverse range of esthetic flaws, you may be a good candidate for veneers. Dr. James Magee III proudly offers both minimal-prep porcelain veneers and dental bonding at his Orlando practice. Both options can conceal stains, fill in chips, reshape your teeth, and more. Dr. Magee will provide a full consultation to help you choose the right treatment for your needs. Contact Clifford Family Dentistry today to learn more about veneers and to find out if you are a candidate for treatment.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are one of the most advanced cosmetic treatments available. When you choose veneers, your Orlando dentist will first reshape your teeth. By trimming away a tiny amount of dental enamel, Dr. Magee can ensure that the veneers will look natural and lie flat against your teeth. Your teeth and surrounding gums will be numb during this process, so you will feel little more than a slight pressure. Then the dentist will take impressions of your teeth, and he will send them to a dental lab. Using these impressions, along with photos, lab technicians can craft veneers that are a near-perfect match to your smile. When they are finished, Dr. Magee will micro-etch the surface of your teeth. Finally, he will attach the porcelain with dental cement.

Are You a Veneers Candidate?

Veneers can conceal many different cosmetic flaws. Often, they can even reshape your teeth and correct slight misalignment. If you are embarrassed by any of the following concerns, veneers may be right for you:

  • Small cracks or chips
  • Intrinsic discoloration that is immune to whitening treatment
  • Worn or eroded teeth
  • Proportionately small or irregularly shaped teeth
  • Gaps between your teeth
  • One or more crooked teeth

To be considered for veneers, you should also have a healthy amount of dental enamel. Dr. Magee will carefully examine your smile to determine whether this treatment is right for you.

Alternatives to Porcelain Veneers

If you do not have enough enamel for porcelain veneers, or if you are on a budget, you may want to consider dental bonding. Sometimes referred to as “direct veneers,” bonding can perform many of the same functions as porcelain veneers. If you select this treatment, Dr. Magee will micro-etch your teeth to create more surface area and a stronger bond. Then he will apply a bonding agent, as well as tooth-colored composite resin. He will carefully select the resin, so that it will match the natural shade of your smile. He will also sculpt and polish the material to conceal esthetic flaws and create a highly lifelike appearance. At the end, he will harden the resin with a curing light and polish your teeth to give them a natural luster.
